Pleasure Beach Park

"The city of Bridgeport doesn’t want to develop this famous beach. It use to be a large amusement park, back in the fifties. It had even a large pool. The mayor has done a terrible job, because Bridgeport has the best ports in the state, a gold mine. The bridge burned down, years ago, never replaced. One reason, the east end, is a black neighborhood, so the mayor will not develop it. Also the Barnum Festival, they gave that to Fairfield. It is really shameful, so many in the dark."

"Wow! I walked to Pleasure Beach from Long Beach. It was about 2 miles one way. The walk was amazing!! So peaceful. I felt like I was on a vacation adventure. I walked to the right away from the beach.The sand eventually turned into very old pavement. There was a lot of talk grass and an abandoned building. There was some trash strewn about. There is a newish pavilion with swings and umbrellas. There was not a soul in sight and it was a bit creepy. There is a nice boardwalk that lead to the beach. I went on a nice day in April and really did not expect to see anyone. I really enjoyed going."

"The place has a lot of potential to attract more visitors. However, the beach the sand and water will not be the main attraction no matter how much money the city pour into it. The beach quality is just not there. The pavilion was empty, not even open. I would go there for walks, long walks if there was a trek around the island but it seemed there wasn't any. There were quite a few towers with birds nesting there, and that was really cool. It seemed there were Piping Plovers all around (at least the signs said that). Lots of shells, lots of nature and fresh breeze. Would recommend it for sure."

"Great place to get away from it all for a few hours or the whole day. Shuttle boat every 25 minutes for free, thank you City of Bridgeport and former mayor Bill Finch. Nice pavilion with showers,rest rooms and snack bar. Just a shame it only runs Memorial Day to Labor Day"

"A beach that is almost empty .. on a Sunday .. yes please! .. Federal funding has currently made this beach, parking, water taxi, and tram rides all free!"
