About the Business

Kent Falls State Park is a stunning natural oasis located at 462 Kent Cornwall Road in Kent, Connecticut. Visitors can wander across the covered bridge, hike the falls, and feel the mist on their face as water cascades 250 feet down on its way to the Housatonic River. This park is one of the crown jewels of the Connecticut State Park system, attracting visitors from across the region.
The falls, fed by Falls Brook, offer a dramatic cascade that is particularly beautiful during the fall foliage season. The park is also a popular spot for fishing, with brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout found in the waters below the falls. Before heading out, visitors should check the latest river conditions and fishing regulations.
Kent Falls State Park features a few trails that offer views from every direction, including an ADA-accessible path at the base of the falls. The park also hosts outdoor exhibits called "Viewpoints", which reproduce works of art painted in the 19th Century, showcasing the Connecticut landscape as it appeared a century ago.
The geological features of Kent Falls are fascinating, with multiple falls and cascades formed by alternating hard and soft layers of rock. The area was once made of coral reefs that were later squeezed and buried under other rock formations. The former coral reefs turned into marble, with some layers more resistant to flowing water due to impurities from surrounding sand and mud.
Visitors can enjoy the beauty and history of Kent Falls State Park for free if they have in-state registered vehicles, while out-of-state vehicles are charged a fee. Whether you're looking to hike, fish, or simply enjoy the natural beauty, Kent Falls State Park offers something for everyone.
Reviews
"Kent Falls in Kent, CT, is an absolutely beautiful place to visit if you're ever in the North West area of Connecticut. My pups and I love it there! The stairs that are next to the Falls are fun to climb. However, the stairs are a difficult climb for those who aren't used to climbing multiple flights. There are landings with viewing spots of the Falls along the way. These are wooden decks with railings that surround them as you look out to see the cascading water. However, I wouldn't recommend expecting to see water flowing if Connecticut has a drought or dry spell, as sometimes it's just a trickle. I've been there during all 4 seasons. Summer is a great season to visit because it is a warmer time of year. Autumn has the changing colors of the foliage. Winter boasts snow and ice on the Falls. The spring time is very nice once the thaw occurs. Then the water is flowing beautifully."
"Wonderful hike with the view of waterfall. I follow the red trail which is quite easy. Several view points. Spectacularly beautiful during fall. Picnic area available. Plenty parking but out of CT state car needs to pay for parking fee. Waterfall could be icy in winter."
"Near peak foliage in Kent state park in 2nd half of October on weekday. Ample parking close to actual falls. Stairs are leading up almost to the top of falls, there are nice observation decks along the way, hence no objection to out-of-state fees for parking. I’ve made a loop returning back to the parking lot via red trail from Dugan road. It is a jewel in CT state park system."
"Beautiful waterfalls and short hikes mostly in stairs. Entry is free for Connecticut residents. There is a $10 fee for out of state cars for day use, which can be paid through a website. The falls can be seen in a distance from parking itself. The entry is through a nice-looking covered bridge. There are tables where you can do a small picnic. The hike to the top of the falls is short and mostly steps. It's a different view of the falls up the top. So don't miss it."
"It an awesome place . But they change it. Added stairs. Buried the bottom part of falls, not allow into the water. There restrooms, picnic tables, to relax or hike, no playgrounds. It being in nature. Dogs must be on a least"
