"My overall experience at Centerpointe was very positive - I lived in NYC and other apartment buildings for many years and this was one of the nicest and best maintained places I lived. Pros: • Convenient Location - the building is in the heart of Downtown New Haven, next to the green, so it is accessible to restaurants, Yale University and even a short walk to Union Station • Amenities: small gym, recreation room, bike storage room, package room and each unit has a washer/dryer, garbage disposal and dishwasher. Building has an excellent fire alarm system and sprinklers. Alarm system is tested 2x/year. • 6 floors, and 120 or so units, elevators and stairs – so you can take stairs or elevator • Semi-annual maintenance of AC/Heat unit and smoke/CO2 detectors. Water and internet are included in rent Brazilian cherry hardwood floors, granite countertops, high ceilings • Overall quiet tenants -building quite but not surrounding area • Property management office onsite, though manager or maintenance supervisor were there less often than when I first moved in • Property is well taken care; management fixes and resolves issues promptly • Rent --relative to newer apartments being built – is not as steep. Cons: • Noisy location – being right near the New Haven Green, and the CT transit crossroads of all New Haven bus lines, the area can be noisy and hectic. • Area changed during the pandemic and at times felt less comfortable and safe (increased, and at times aggressive panhandling, substance use – I called 911 on a few occasions to get people medical care) • Management not onsite as much as they once were • On the side of the building where I was: no way to clean outside of windows and the windows were original/old and not well insulated. • Positioning of heater/AC and thermostat was close to window and thus affected by poor window insulation/drafts or heat in summer. * No parking I am glad I lived there, but was more than ready to leave when I did (mostly due to changes in the area)"
"I lived at Centerpointe for a year and had mixed feelings about my time here. The Good: - Location - the building is in Downtown New Haven, where it is a 10-15 minute walk to Union Station and all the restaurants - Amenities - washer/dryer and dishwasher in each unit - The super, Julio, was fantastic! He was extremely helpful and very attentive to requests. He is the main reason why I gave this place any stars - Hot water and internet were included in rent - Nice hardwood floors - Back-up super in building for any after-hours requests - Package room/Bike storage room - High ceilings The Bad: - There were some instances of management accessing the apartment without notification or without adequate prior notice. Per Connecticut law, all tenants must be notified at least 24 hours prior to anyone entering your unit. This was not always followed. - Management did not always respond to questions - During the summer, there were small flies that swarmed the fitness center, trash/recycling room, and community room (all in the basement). Some of the flies were in my unit at times, even though everything was kept clean. - Management did not typically stay on site past the posted hours, and on several occasions would leave early, so it was difficult to try to speak to them in person - Since the building is in the Downtown area close to the green, there are times the neighborhood hasn't been safe Additional note - There are lots of graduate students who live live here (it is close to Yale after all). Personally, I would not live here again."
