Holiday Inn Hartford Downtown Area, an IHG Hotel

"Horrid general manager named Peter Marx. We received a call while visiting family notifying us that there was a fire somewhere in the building and that the front desks would make accomidations for us at the front desk at another hotel - which was NOT true. The pompous GM told us they will absolutely NOT do that. After a bit of arguing back and forth we got our stuff from our room and booked a hotel somewhere else. With fees around $200 it night is absolutely not worth it. Sure it is clean - enough but I would expect more for that kind of money in the middle of nowhere and not be treated like garbage. The fridge is what I would call an extra-mini mini fridge, no microwave. Right now we are staying at another place for only $90 a night the mini fridge is full size, has a microwave and they even provide tea bags for non-coffee drinkers (only coffee here). Sure the tv here is smaller but it gets a lot more channels and it's near a bunch of other amenities, (chain) restraunts, a couple places to get drinks at within walking distance - even though they close early, but so does most everything else in the area. and the staff are actually friendly - ::gasp::. I have stayed here several times because it's convenient when visiting the in-laws but this new hotel is only 5 minutes from here a much better value. Edit: Oh also apparently a fire (even though I smelled no smoke) is an "Act of God", rather than negligence. Ya know, "Acts of God" like a hurricane, flood, tornado, etc..."

"Worst hotel I’ve stayed at. Stains on the carpets and walls. The room smells terrible. The curtain in the bathroom smells like it’s never be changed. All the mirrors are filthy. The floor looks like it’s never been vacuumed. I have nothing nice to say about this hotel. It needs to be renovated asap. Do not waste your time here."

"I had not been there for years and it did not improve over time. Restaurant is less than basic, even getting a beer can become a challenge. Breakfast opens at 7:00 only. Rooms are basic... but clean. Room temperature is low. There is nothing around the hotel but highways, which is good to get access and bad when you want to go out in the evening."

"Rooms are alright. They’re what you would expect for an old hotel. However, a lot of things just show the poor management. Common areas/hallways are filthy. Wallpaper falling off walls, dirty elevators, filthy gym and pool area. At one point, the gym looked as though it had been outside in the weather as it was completely soaking wet (everywhere) to include the treadmills. Asked for paper towels to be restocked in the gym for 6 days and well … never happened. Nearly a third of the TV channels did not work/at all if there was any weather present. Towels smelt of smoke and mildew. On the flip side the two ladies who were working the day shifts at the desk were great. Housekeeping also had very friendly crews. I think a big facelift is needed and it seems most the concerns are not managements priority as it appears they’re just trying to pinch a penny."
