Fire was a vital resource for survival, and the kaikōmako tree became the most valuable source of it for early Māori.
Also known as the 'ducks foot' or the 'bellbird tree', the kaikōmako tree is not only rich in symbolism but also serves as a food source for the korimako, a beautiful native bird. The name Te Ahi Kaikōmako reflects the metaphor of our school being the source of fire for our students' learning journey.
