"Great stop on our helicopter pub crawl. Very friendly and welcomed all into his house. Only takes card as payment for beers."
"Two mates who grew up in Michigan, USA, one still in Michigan and the other in South Texas. We decided to meet up and have a three week adventure in Australia. Spent 5 days in Darwin during the wet season. Hired a boat out of Humpty Doo (2/22/23) from Wayne at Outback Boat Hire, for two days. Taking that boat up the Adelaide was nothing like boating in Texas or Michigan, what an adventure. Topped off by one night at Kai's Island. GREAT host, super nice guy with a wealth of local knowledge. My buddy Mark and I sat and listened to stories of the area, the building and maintenance of Goat Island, his ex-wife, the legacy of his "pet" crocodile Casey, she was off nesting near the other end of the Island, looks like Kai is going to be a grandfather again, soon. We fished up the Adelaide and caught nothing just as Kai told us we would and same we heard from Wayne. The fish just weren't biting. Saw plenty of crocs who were pretty stealthy out there. Fruit bats the size of hawks, a variety of tropical birds, couple of wallabies and lots of muddy water, didn't see another boat or person in two days. We explored some areas Kai told us about, little tributaries off the main river and we found some other creeks to explore as well as the area behind the Island. Food was great, we had burgers the first day and the breakkie sandwiches in the morning, both perfect. Very comfortable place if you like the rugged kind of adventure. A/C was cold and linens and accommodation was clean enough for the area. Yes, there was a frog in the shower, he didn't bother anybody, he was after bugs and there's no shortage of those in the wet season, or the dry season. Just get yourself some Deet bug spray and all will be fine. Our thanks to Kai and his beer drinking dog Muddy for showing us a great time at the Island. Next time, we'll be back in the dry season, hopefully catching fish as well as adventuring around. Hoping to bring my daughter, she'd love it but mama will need to find something else to do, she would not do well in that environment. If you like adventure, cold beer, great stories, no woke bullsh*t and plenty of opinions thrown around, this is the place. If you are easily offended, don't bother. I was greeted by Kai while tying up the boat at the dock with, "you look like you don't know what the f*ck you're doing, give me that". To which Mark and I busted out laughing, and I still laugh at, Kai has some great comedic timing. Again, thanks Kai, You were a great host and give Muddy a pat and a splash of beer for us. We will be back in a couple of years ! Until then, take care my friend."
"Place is only accessible by boat or chopper. The owner is very funny, but if your one of the new bread of Marshmallow Aussies who are offended by everything this place is not for you. Political Correctness not allowed. If you love old school Australia where u can sit enjoy the view with a cold beer and spin a yarn without worried about offending anyone, go there you'll love it. Nice to see there are still places like it in Australia."
