Inveresk Library

Welcome to Inveresk Library, located at 2 Invermay Road in Launceston, Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, this library is an integral part of the University of Tasmania's Inveresk campus.

The Inveresk Library is a $23 million development that marks the first new building in the area as part of the Northern Transformation Program. This program, funded through the Launceston City Deal with contributions from the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, City of Launceston, and the University, aims to bring learning opportunities closer to the community.

Designed by John Wardle Architects with input from students, staff, and the local community, this three-level library offers a wide range of resources and amenities. Whether you're a student, a member of the general public, or a community borrower, you have access to our extensive collections and inviting spaces.

Inside, you'll find group and quiet study areas, both digital and print collections, meeting rooms, classrooms, and a variety of cultural objects and artworks, including the Riawunna collection. We also provide convenient facilities such as a student kitchenette and a parenting room. And in 2023, a café will be opening its doors, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the campus.

Sustainability is a key focus in the design of our library. We have incorporated recycled gas pipelines for the building's foundations, utilized Tasmanian timber for its structure, and implemented low carbon concrete and solar initiatives to maximize energy efficiency. We are committed to minimizing our environmental impact while providing a comfortable and inspiring space for learning and collaboration.

During the University's transition to Inveresk, library services will continue to be available at both the Newnham and Inveresk locations. This ensures that students have the support they need throughout this exciting campus development. By 2024, two additional buildings will be completed, further enhancing the educational experience at Inveresk.

As we embark on this journey, we acknowledge and pay respect to the palawa/pakana peoples of lutruwita, upon whose lands the University of Tasmania stands. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and culturally diverse environment that values and celebrates Indigenous heritage.
