"Nice little restaurant in cataract gorge surrounded by lively peacocks. Food and service was good. We had the calamari and the today's special seafood chowder in cob bread."

"Do not mind the peacocks and the photogenic view: just the food is a good reason to visit S41°26.699' E147°7.081' It is worth eating here for the photogenic scenery when you are sitting outside or for the peacocks? Not during our rainy lunch visit in February of 2020, just sitting alone inside without the view. Often great views make for poor food. Was it true for the Gorge restaurant? The first impression was good: white tablecloths and linen napkins. Formal dining is a good sign for good food. The interior is classic 1930. We loved the beautiful “Art Deco” chairs. We ordered the catch of the day: Blue Eye fish with roasted Parmesan potatoes & truffle green pea sauce ($37.90) and Tasmanian Bush Pepper Calamari with chilli & lime rice vermicelli, coriander & rocket ($22,90) in combined with a glass of Riesling white wine. Both fish dishes were well prepared, nicely presented and tasted delicious. The pepper on the calamari provided a tasty combination. We preferred the vermicelli to be warm. The blue eye fish tasted really well. The combination with the Riesling wine resulted in a very enjoyable lunch. The chef knows how to prepare fish dishes. The waiter offered advice about the menu and did a good job. Afterwards, we had a nice conversation with the manager. The Gorge Restaurant is a good reason on its own to do the Cataract Walk from the Kings Bridge and Cataract Cottage and afterwards stroll back to town through Cataract Gorge. The interior is classic with white tablecloths and linen napkins, the food is gourmet and the service very professional. On our 3-week culinary journey in Tasmania, this restaurant is the one we remember the most. Highly recommended."
