Adamstown Community Early Learning and Preschool

Welcome to Adamstown Community Early Learning and Preschool, a community-based institution located in the heart of Australia. Situated in Adamstown, Gosford Road, our establishment is owned by the Newcastle City Council and operates as an Incorporated Association. We pride ourselves on being a not-for-profit service, with a voluntary parent committee overseeing the viability and managerial aspects of the business.

At Adamstown Community Early Learning and Preschool, we offer three age-specific learning environments to cater to the needs of children at different stages of development. Our Nursery is designed for children aged 0-2 years, Toddlers is tailored for those aged 2-3 years, and Preschool is dedicated to children aged 3-5 years. Each learning environment is carefully designed to support children's strengths, needs, and interests.

Our dedicated team of highly qualified and experienced educators implements an emergent curriculum based on the Australian Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF, 2009). This framework ensures that children's learning experiences are meaningful, engaging, and aligned with their developmental milestones.

We are proud to share that Adamstown Community Early Learning and Preschool was the recipient of the prestigious 2019 Hesta Award for our innovative practitioner research project on Building children's risk competence. Our center's research team collaborated with academics from the University of Newcastle to analyze data and implement a unique change project with educators and children. The project highlighted the importance of including risky play in our curriculum, demonstrating that when children are supported through intentional teaching strategies, they develop better perception, assessment, and management of risk in their play. This groundbreaking research gained significant media attention, featuring on Channel 10's The Project, ABC radio, and various educational blogs.

As an institution deeply rooted in the community, we would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the Awabakal people, the traditional custodians of the land on which our institution stands. We extend our respect to the elders, past and present, of the Awabakal people, as well as to other Aboriginal people present.
