At Roots & Reasons, we take pride in being a true family affair - we even live on-site! As newcomers to Hahndorf, we have relished the opportunity to meet and connect with the welcoming locals. So, if you find yourself in the neighborhood, be sure to drop by and say hello!
Curious about the name Roots & Reasons? It holds a special significance for us in multiple ways. Firstly, it is inspired by a profound saying from the Dalai Lama, which you can find beautifully displayed on the walls of our café.
Additionally, the name pays homage to the historical family roots of our co-owner, Amber. Her mother's family, the Pfeiffers, were among the original 54 families who settled in Hahndorf back in 1839. Furthermore, one of the first settlers on her father's side, Juliane Both, rests in eternal peace in the cemetery here.
Lastly, our co-owner Matt has honed his craft in the culinary industry for over 25 years, working with exceptional restaurant and café owners across Adelaide and Hobart. When the opportunity arose to establish this incredible venue, we saw no better reason to embark on this journey.
