Welcome to The Food Co-op Shop and Cafe, a community-owned and run establishment located in the heart of Canberra on Kingsley Street. As a bulk grocery store and cafe, we are not just your average supermarket, but a vibrant community hub and events venue.
At The Food Co-op, we believe in the importance of acknowledging the original and ongoing sovereignty of the Traditional Owners of the Canberra region, including the Ngunnawal/Ngunawal, Ngambri, and Ngarigo peoples. We pay our sincere respects to the elders, both past and present, who have cared for these lands for generations.
Our deep appreciation for the land extends beyond words. We are committed to sourcing products that support the regeneration of land harmed by colonial practices. By doing so, we aim to honor the rich traditions of land management, food propagation, and harvesting that have nourished people on these lands for thousands of years.
In our quest to further support First Nations communities, we are actively developing a First Nations Custodians Solidarity Action Plan. We value the input and involvement of First Nations people from the Canberra region to ensure that our operations align with their needs and aspirations.
We invite and encourage First Nations people to share their responses and feedback with us, not only on our acknowledgement but also on any aspect of our operations. "My favourite source for organic foods like nuts, flours, legumes, grains. We've been despairing at the overpackaging in food stores, and the coop lets us reuse our bags/jars/containers again and again. There's also lots of sterilised jars etc if you don't bring your own. It's also pretty cheap compared to other organic stores. And a great place for a reasonably priced nutritious vegan lunch or indulgent baked good washed down with a delicious chai. It has a great vibe!"
"I love the co-op! The community is warm, inviting and inclusive. Lunches are always great and very affordable for such a nutritious vegan and gluten free meal, made with love. Lots of baked goods each day and $3 cups of soy chai! Discounted prices for members, students and volunteers. Highly recommend!"

"Very nice store, nice selection of products. If you don't have jars you can use the ones available there, you can also donate jars to be reused. There's a cafe and a restaurant too and the food is delicious, usually a vegan option. We had rice with daal and a vegetable curry and it was really good, tasted like homemade food. House brewed chai was also delicious. Friendly staff and great service."
