Thrower House

Welcome to Thrower House, a unique establishment located in Palm Beach, Australia. Situated amongst picturesque parkland next to Currumbin Creek, Thrower House offers a wide range of activities and programs for young people aged between 12 and 17 years.

Our location provides easy access to the nearby skate park, allowing for outdoor activities, exercise, and outdoor games which are regular features of our after school program. We believe in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for young people, and our facility is designed to support this.

The main meeting area at Thrower House is equipped with a television and computer games, providing a space for young people to relax and unwind. Additionally, our adjacent computer area offers internet access and Microsoft Office programs, allowing young people to enhance their digital skills.

One of the highlights of Thrower House is our kitchen, where young people have the opportunity to learn basic cooking skills through our school holiday programs. We believe in empowering young people to develop practical life skills, and our kitchen provides the perfect setting for this.

For those interested in the arts, we have an arts shed adjacent to the house that hosts various art activities. Our school holiday programs often include activities such as tie dying, soap making, special effect make up workshops, and jewellery making, all held in this creative space.

Thrower House is not available for hire, as it is designed as a safe and supportive center exclusively for young people aged between 12 and 17 years. We are proud to partner with Wesley Mission, who provide our youth program on behalf of the City of Gold Coast. Our aim is to create a positive and inclusive environment where young people can access various services and get involved in our regular programs.

Since its opening in 2009, Thrower House has been a result of the strong support from the local community, schools, and support organizations. The original building was generously donated to the City of Gold Coast, and while it was beyond repair, our new building was designed to replicate the original style that was once common in the area.

Accessibility was a key objective during the design and consultation phases of Thrower House. We wanted to ensure that people of all abilities can easily utilize our space. As a result, our building features a ramp, wide doorways, an accessible kitchen, and bathroom. These inclusive features have allowed programs such as the young parents group to comfortably use our venue.

At Thrower House, we are dedicated to providing a safe and engaging environment for young people. Our school holiday programs run for one to four weeks, depending on the length of the school holiday break. Our Wesley Mission youth workers facilitate a full week of fun activities, ensuring that young people have a memorable and enjoyable experience.
