In 2011, Dr Dowthwaite achieved his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons through a rigorous examination process.

His areas of interest within the field include general ENT practice as well as sub-specialty focus on head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery. To further his skills, he pursued a fellowship in London, Ontario, Canada, where he worked closely with Professor John Yoo, a renowned expert in the field.
Dr Dowthwaite takes pride in his accomplishments, including being the first surgeon in Queensland to perform transoral robotic surgery. He continues to advance robotic programs through his affiliations with John Flynn Private Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

"I would highly recommend Dr. Dowthwaite to anyone in need of ENT treatment. I had 2 surgeries performed by him to treat my sleep apnea and both went really well. Recovery was painful but Dr. Sam adequately prepared me for this and set my expectations so I could manage my recovery well.
