The Food Centre Inc

Welcome to The Food Centre Inc, a community-based not-for-profit organization located at Gepps Cross, Main North Road, 580 in Australia. Our establishment was originally founded to establish and operate a food centre for the community, and we have been serving the public since 1990.

At The Food Centre, we are committed to assisting members of the community living on low incomes and those experiencing financial difficulties. We provide affordable groceries, clothing, and household goods through our Grocery Shop, Mel's Op Shop, and Arnold's Place Café. Shopping or volunteering within our institution is not only a great way to save money but also an opportunity to meet new people, forge new friendships, and give back to the community.

Our Grocery Shop offers quality groceries, including fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh meat, dairy produce, and a wide range of locally sourced essential household provisions at competitive prices. We also offer Easy FeastTM meals, which are perfect meal packs providing healthy, low salt, and sugar-free nutritional meals at low cost for families.

Arnold's Place is a cheery, low-cost coffee shop offering healthy and affordable light lunches, freshly made snacks and cakes, and a range of hot and cold beverages. If you're looking for pre-loved clothing, homewares, bric-a-brac, and collectables, Mel's Op Shop is the place to find great bargains.

Our Community Hub provides a space for customers and the broader community to meet, socialize, and share. The hub facilitates a range of activities supporting positive health and wellbeing, as well as offering skills-building programs and assistance such as legal and financial planning advice. It also serves as a support base for our volunteers and community members looking to gain skills and re-enter the workforce.

We are proud to be the local Client Support Provider of the No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS), which provides individuals and families on low incomes access to safe, fair, and affordable credit. This alternative to pay-day lenders and rent-to-buy schemes offers maximum loan amounts ranging from $300 to $1500, with no fees, charges, or interest.

The Food Centre has been accredited through The Australian Service Excellence Standards (ASES) program, demonstrating our commitment to excellence in service delivery. We aim to improve the self-sufficiency of individuals and families by forging strong relationships with other community organizations and jointly providing improved community services.
