"Been customers of CGU for 25 years. Had lots of issues last year where our car should have been written off but they wouldn’t. Without our car for 5 months. Crash repairer “fixed” it and I use that term loosely. CGU were terrible through the whole process. We couldn’t find anywhere cheaper so reluctantly stayed with them. Our daughter recently bought a new car so we needed to add her new car to our policy and take old one off. Easy right? Oh no they don’t want your business. My wife spent HOURS on the phone getting thrown around between CGU and AON who were the brokers when we originally took out insurance. All she got was “we can’t do that ring this number” “ oh no why did they give you this number to ring? We can’t help you” WE JUST WANTED TO GIVE THEM MONEY!!!!! In the end she gave up it was just too hard. So end result we have now found somewhere else cheaper (Allianz) saved ourselves $50 per month and my daughter $100 per month. Absolute disgrace of a company."
"I have been with CHU for as long as i can remember. I have recently moved to a very safe neighbourhood where there are a lot of retirees. Upon changing my details CGU put up my fees 100% !! I hunted around and found other insurance companies rates were the same as my previous rates. Every time i called CGU there has been issues. For example having a double policy on my car!!! Then upon cancelling they tell me i haven’t been paying my insurance. I can clearly tell them all the dates it comes out of my account! They tell me i owe $400 on my car and $100 on my contents! How does this happen when i get direct debited? Each time i have been on the phone to them for over an hour even when just changing my address!!! Last phone call she was checking why i still owed money and after 1hr of the phone call i was cut off now i have to call back and go through it all again. I agree they need a zero star option."
"Giving them 1 star is way to generous, they take money on the wrong date, they take money after the policy is over, they also don't give you it back. They put up you're insurance without letting you know. They are the worst most unprofessional company by far, do not use them. CGU you are disgusting....."
"Had a policy on my home for several years and was satisfied until this year they decided to hike the policy by a whooping 45% in one year. I made no claims and nothing changed.. They claimed it was because of the cost to replace a home has gone up.. I can understand if it was increased by CPI or increased by 6.5% (the current rate of inflation) How on earth is 45% increase justifiable. I talked to them about my concerns but they just read the sheet they were given... good bye CGU"
"This company is absolutely horrible, I wish there was an option to give them zero stars. When I called them to get a certificate of currency for refinacing my mortgage, I was told that my policy was being cancelled immediately as I was not a member of People's Choice. Never mind that I had been paying my yearly premiums up front for almost 7 years, and the fact that they set this policy up to begin with. I was then told that my insurance probably wouldn't have been valid if something had actually happened, say my home burning down. It took them almost a month to refund the premium remaining from the policy they cancelled, whcih was only done after multiple phone calls from my end, despite receiving a letter saying they had already done it. The staff are rude and disinterested in actually solving your issue. I sent two emails making a complaint and followed up with a phone call and they have ignored everything. There is no easy way to get in touch with the person working your case; you need to call the generic phone number, go through a million prompts, be out on hold for an hour, be told the person you were speaking to isn't available and then be hung up on. Do yourself a favour and avoid this comapany at all costs!"
