About the Business
Welcome to Australia Zoo, located in Beerwah, on Queensland's stunning Sunshine Coast. As an establishment, park, point of interest, tourist attraction, and zoo, we offer a unique experience that combines wildlife conservation with unforgettable animal encounters. And the best part? All proceeds from your visit go directly towards our wildlife conservation initiatives.
Australia Zoo was founded by the legendary Steve and Terri Irwin, who had a vision of creating the biggest and best wildlife conservation facility in the world. Their passion and dedication are evident in every corner of our zoo. From the moment you step through our gates, you'll be immersed in a world like no other.
Steve Irwin, born in Upper Ferntree Gully, Victoria, and Terri Raines, originally from Eugene, Oregon, USA, both grew up with a deep love for wildlife. Their shared passion led them to open the Beerwah Reptile Park in 1970, which eventually transformed into the incredible Australia Zoo we know today.
Their legacy lives on through their children, Bindi Sue Irwin and Robert Clarence Irwin. Bindi, a passionate wildlife conservationist, is determined to make a positive difference on our planet. Robert, with his infectious energy and love for nature, brings a unique perspective to Australia Zoo.
When you visit Australia Zoo, you'll have the opportunity to see over 1,200 animals, including those found in our African Savannah, South-East Asia exhibit, and Bindi's Island. Of course, we also have all your Aussie favorites, showcasing the incredible diversity of Australia's wildlife.
But Australia Zoo is not just a place to admire animals. It's a place where conservation is at the heart of everything we do. By visiting us, you are directly contributing to our conservation projects around the world. From protecting tigers in Sumatra and cheetahs in Africa to preserving saltwater crocodiles and koalas in Australia, every dollar you spend helps save species.
We offer a multitude of ways to connect with our gorgeous animals. Whether it's observing them in habitats that replicate their natural environment or getting up close and personal with them, we have an epic experience for everyone. Your time at Australia Zoo will be as wild as life gets!
As we continue our conservation efforts, we proudly acknowledge the Gubbi Gubbi people as the customary owners of the land upon which Australia Zoo stands. We respect their Country, spirit, and traditions.
So, are you ready to support Wildlife Warriors conservation projects worldwide? Come and join us at Australia Zoo, where wildlife conservation and unforgettable experiences go hand in hand.
Reviews
"This was my third visit, but it was the second or first for the rest of our group. There are always new animals and exhibits to see. Make sure you have your walking shoes on! We also hired a mobility scooter for one member of our group, which was a good option to have. So many things to see and do in a day. Highly recommend!"
"We had a wonderful day here, the zoo is well laid out, the map helps too, we just ticked off the animals as we went but managed to see everyone! Enclosures are a good size and clean. Highly recommend the $2 donation to go look inside the vet clinic too!! The cafe was good with a huge selection, and reasonable prices. Toilets were all clean. Overall great day!!"
"Had a wonderful experience with friends , we saw the Croc show , also with the beautiful birds , the Tiger show . The Otters getting fed , “so cute” A cute baby Giraffe running around , patted a Koala , Rhinos, plus many of the amazing animals . And of course the beautiful Asian Elephants, which made my day . The staff are amazing , all extremely helpful, and very informative. So much space for each species , and so clean . I would like to say a special thank you to the lovely staff member who made it possible for me to get another copy of Terri Irwin’s book , “My Steve “ as a replacement for the one I missed placed on the day free of charge . “Overall what an experience “ ."
"What a zoo!! Not only is it huge but the quality and cleanliness of each exhibit was impressive. The shows were wonderful and I highly recommend you go to them all. It's a very big so, so if you have small children with you make sure to get a pull-trolley which also has storage and drink holders. The food has improved substantially since my last visit. A great family outing and must for all Australians and tourists."
