Australia Zoo was founded by the legendary Steve and Terri Irwin, who had a vision of creating the biggest and best wildlife conservation facility in the world. Their passion and dedication are evident in every corner of our zoo. From the moment you step through our gates, you'll be immersed in a world like no other.

Steve Irwin, born in Upper Ferntree Gully, Victoria, and Terri Raines, originally from Eugene, Oregon, USA, both grew up with a deep love for wildlife. Their shared passion led them to open the Beerwah Reptile Park in 1970, which eventually transformed into the incredible Australia Zoo we know today.

Their legacy lives on through their children, Bindi Sue Irwin and Robert Clarence Irwin. Bindi, a passionate wildlife conservationist, is determined to make a positive difference on our planet. Robert, with his infectious energy and love for nature, brings a unique perspective to Australia Zoo.

When you visit Australia Zoo, you'll have the opportunity to see over 1,200 animals, including those found in our African Savannah, South-East Asia exhibit, and Bindi's Island. Of course, we also have all your Aussie favorites, showcasing the incredible diversity of Australia's wildlife.
