At A Local Baker, we believe in simplicity, health, and natural ingredients. Our specialty lies in producing and selling organic sourdough breads, as well as a delightful range of handmade cakes and savouries. What sets us apart is our woodfired oven, which has a rich history dating all the way back to 1850.

Originally housed in Port Melbourne, this historic oven was discovered and rescued by the first St Andrews baker. It was painstakingly transported, brick by brick, to its current location in St Andrews, where it was lovingly restored. We take great pride in using this traditional oven to bake all of our products, resulting in a truly artisanal taste and texture.

Our organic sourdough bread is a testament to our commitment to simplicity and health. Made with just water, flour, and salt, and following a traditional process that includes a minimum 6-hour resting time, our bread is not only delicious but also easy to digest. The resting process breaks down the gluten, making it a healthier option. This is bread made the way it has been for thousands of years.

Located at 83 Burns Street, our bakery is conveniently situated near other iconic establishments in St Andrews, such as A Boy Named Sue, Punch Wine Room, and the St Andrews Hotel. We are also just across the road from the popular St Andrews Market, which takes place every Saturday morning.

For those in Preston, we have recently opened a new shopfront at 181 High St, bringing our artisanal delights closer to you.
