About the Business
Welcome to the Department of General Medicine at The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) in Parkville, Australia. Our department is one of the largest at RCH, consisting of over 90 dedicated staff members, including Senior Medical staff, Junior Medical staff, allied health professionals, administration, and nursing staff.
Within our department, we have several sub-specialty units, including Infectious Diseases, Immunisation, Rheumatology, Immigrant Health, and Clinical Pharmacology. Many of our staff members also hold appointments at the MCRI and the University of Melbourne. Our primary goal is to provide the highest quality of care to our patients, based on evidence-based practices.
Education and teaching are vital components of our department, and we have an active program in place. We also have a strong focus on academic research, and our department leads the working group responsible for developing clinical practice guidelines. Additionally, we are proud to welcome and mentor up to 20 medical students from the University of Melbourne each term.
Our inpatient service is provided by 18 consultants who are part of four medical teams. With over 6500 admissions per year, our inpatient activity is among the highest at RCH. We also provide leadership and staffing for the 24-bed short stay unit. Furthermore, our department offers a wide range of outpatient clinics, including General Medicine, continence, upper airways, emergency review, chronic fatigue, immigrant health, infectious diseases, rheumatology, immunisation, and dermatology.
Thanks to the diverse skill set of our clinical staff, we actively seek opportunities to collaborate with other departments within RCH to optimize and streamline the care we provide to our patients. We believe in a holistic approach to healthcare and strive to ensure the best possible outcomes for our young patients.
Finally, we would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which the RCH is situated, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
