About the Business

Welcome to Yellow Gum Park, located in Plenty, Goldsworthy Lane, Australia. As an establishment, park, point of interest, and tourist attraction, Yellow Gum Park offers a wide range of natural and cultural experiences just 20 km from Melbourne. The park is nestled within Plenty Gorge Park, where the breathtaking gorge serves as a backdrop for stunning landscape views. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the park and witness the abundant native wildlife that is always on display.
The park's unique geological features are shaped by volcanic activity, with the Plenty River acting as a dividing line between two distinct geological types. The western side showcases basalt formations, while the eastern side boasts sedimentary rock, creating a diverse range of habitats. This diversity makes the park an important refuge for both threatened and regionally significant species.
Whether you're looking for a peaceful picnic or a fun-filled barbecue, Yellow Gum Park has a variety of recreation and picnic areas to suit everyone's preferences. The family-friendly Red Gum Picnic Area features a children's adventure playground, picnic tables, and toilets equipped with parenting and disabled facilities. Nearby walking tracks lead to the Morang Wetlands and the Hawkstowe Picnic Area.
Speaking of the Hawkstowe Picnic Area, it offers stunning views of the Plenty River, the wooded Plenty Gorge, and a historical homestead. This area was once part of the larger Hawkstowe Farm, established in the 1850s by the Le Page family. It's the perfect spot for a quiet picnic or barbecue while immersing yourself in the rich history of the area.
For those seeking spectacular views of the gorge and river, Middle Gorge is the place to be. Enjoy the scenic beauty from the viewing platform and explore the walking tracks. If you're looking for a secluded picnic spot, head to Middle Gorge and enjoy the peaceful surroundings along the river.
Yarrambat Picnic Ground offers plenty of wide-open space for playing games and on-lead dog-walking. Additionally, you can take in the magnificent views of Kinglake National Park and Mt Disappointment.
Yellow Gum Recreation Area is perfect for bird and wildlife watching, bushwalking, picnicking, and barbecuing. Fishing enthusiasts with a current Victorian Amateur Fishing Licence can try their luck at Blue Lake. Witness the stunning pink hues of the cliffs as the sun sets over the lake.
If you wish to extend your stay, Nioka Bush Camp provides great group camping options with bunkhouse accommodation available.
Plenty Gorge Park has undergone recovery and rehabilitation following the 2019 fire. Find out more information about these efforts on our website.

Reviews
"Lots to explore. Hiking shoes required. Small trails to go offtrack and explore good views of the gorge. Lots of kangaroos and bunnies."
"Quiet place but good for hiking! We discovered some kangaroos but could not find wombats! Free hiking, Free parking lot! There is a public bathroom too!"
"Beautiful afternoon walk at Yellow Gum Park and the Blue Lake in Plenty Gorge. Such gorgeous views. Great walk to do with kids. The track is wide (fire access track) although made from gravel. A pram would be okay, but probably not a stroller. Mountain biking is extremely popular in the park as well. We walked the loop around the Blue Lake from the carpark. But there are many more tracks to explore!"
"Plenty of walking trails and a maze of MTB trails in this region of the gorge. The circuit around Blue Lake is a popular one. People also swim in the lake. If you're spending the afternoon there, please remember to take your own rubbish away with you. It was sad to see a lot of rubbish left and empty bottles in the lake."
