Prof Gerald Fogarty serves as an experienced radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre sites in Revesby, Gosford, and Wahroonga. He completed his Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with Honours at the University of New South Wales in 1983. Prof Fogarty underwent radiation oncology training at Geelong Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, gaining extensive expertise in managing and treating skin cancer and melanoma. In 2003, he became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR). Furthermore, he completed a PhD focused on the advances in radiation therapy for skin cancer treatment at the University of Technology Sydney in 2013.

Having relocated to Sydney in 2006, Prof Fogarty served as a radiation oncology consultant at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. From 2007 to 2016, he held the position of Mater Hospital’s Site Director and Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist in North Sydney. Over the last decade, Prof Fogarty has held senior radiation oncology positions at Macquarie University Hospital, Skin & Cancer Foundation, and Melanoma Institute of Australia. Before joining Icon Cancer Centre, he served as the Site Director and Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney from 2016 to 2021. Prof Fogarty's career goal is to establish a level one evidence base for therapies in cancer, particularly in skin cancer, to achieve the best possible treatment outcomes for patients.

Alongside his clinical work, Prof Fogarty maintains a strong interest in clinical research and education. He actively engages in educating and mentoring emerging medical professionals. Prof Fogarty holds academic appointments at prestigious institutions such as the University of Technology Sydney, University of Sydney, University of Notre Dame, and Macquarie University Hospital. He is also the Master of Warrane College. As a sought-after speaker, Prof Fogarty regularly presents at national and international conferences. His expertise is reflected in his authorship of over 180 publications, including the radiation therapy section of the 2019 NHMRC Management of Keratinocyte Guidelines.

Prof Fogarty remains at the forefront of new technologies in radiation therapy treatment. He is a leading specialist in the utilization of advanced techniques such as stereotactic radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). His clinical experience spans a wide range of solid tumor malignancies, with a particular focus on melanoma, skin cancer, and benign skin conditions amenable to radiation therapy.
