"My husband (28 year old) was referred by his GP to see a specialist for Acid reflux given he was portraying possible symptoms and the usual medicine was not doing the trick. The specialist requested 2 gastric emptying tests (liquid and solid) to be done at CNI Molecular Imaging. These tests costs approx. $500 The tests meant he needed to be exposed to radiation and lasted approx. 4hours. He was given an egg roll to eat and then ask to lie down for 2 hours while they scanned the egg roll passing though his digestive system. The results came back positive with extremely slow gastric emptying for liquids and solids. The specialist received the reports and indicated my husband had acid reflux and gastroparesis (slow emptying). Without any explanations as to what caused it or how it can be treated (except OTC medicine). We went for a second opinion with another specialist who suggested re-taking the 2 tests above with another clinic as most patients who tested at CNI imaging, tested positive for acid reflux and gastroparesis. The second test at a different centre indicated he DID NOT have acid reflux and DID NOT have gastroparesis. Infact his stomach digested food quicker !! How can the same tests at different centres provide very different results. This impacted my husband and I because: 1. We started changing diets to suit someone with gastroparesis - e.g avoiding fibre reach food, decreasing the qty of foods. 2. After being diagnosed, we did research on the gastroparesis condition and found results that were very worrying. So my husband and I were mentally stressed and worried all the time. 3. He continued to take Gaviscon and other OTC medicine to help the condition whereas he did not need to. 4. Unnecessary increased medical bills on tests, medicines, travel to and from and taking significant time off work. I would suggest think twice and do your research before using this centre for any acid reflux and gastroparesis related condition's."
