About the Business
Welcome to Mount View High School, located in Cessnock, Australia. As a comprehensive coeducational community school, we have high expectations for our students and believe that every individual has the ability to achieve their personal best.
At Mount View High School, we prioritize providing opportunities for all students to thrive. We understand the importance of parental involvement in a student's education, which is why we offer the Sentral Parent Portal. This portal allows parents to access specific school-based information about their children, ensuring open communication and involvement in their educational journey.
We are proud to offer a range of programs and initiatives to support our students' growth and development. For example, our Valid 10 external online assessment assesses students' scientific skills and knowledge at this stage of the Stage 5 Science course, helping them excel in their studies.
We also value the role of family and community in our students' lives. Each year, we celebrate Father's Day by hosting a special breakfast for fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and carers. Our Senior Cafe provides complimentary refreshments and bacon and egg rolls as a token of appreciation for the fathers and father-figures in our Mount View High School community.
Promoting gender equality and breaking stereotypes is crucial to us. That's why we have the Girls Can Too! program, which supports female students in Years 10-12 to explore careers in non-traditional trades. Through hands-on training in trades such as plumbing, electronics, automotive, construction, and electrical at Hunter-V-Tec in Rutherford, students gain valuable skills and knowledge. We also organize tours, employer and apprentice visits, mock interviews, VET Pathways information, and work experience to enhance their learning experience.
We understand the importance of health care for our students, which is why we established the Mount View High School GP Clinic in 2019. This clinic provides barrier-free access to healthcare for Year 11 and 12 students. Operating every second Wednesday between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, the clinic offers appointments with alternating GPs. Students must make a booking via the HOTDOC app to attend.
As the HSC exams approach, we recognize the stress that students and their families may experience. We offer support and guidance during this period, ensuring that students have the necessary resources and assistance to excel in their exams.
We also take pride in acknowledging and respecting the traditional custodians of the land. We pay tribute to the Awabakal, Wonnarua, and Darkinjung people, who are the three language groups in our AECG area. We honor our Elders, both past and present, and recognize the importance of preserving and carrying forward our traditions and culture within our school and wider community.
