"I got shortchanged $12 by them, the server and I were both distracted after I gave her the cash because another staff accidentally knocked something down at that moment and they were chatting with each other and I was staring at the food in front of me on the counter, she gave me my food and change and I walked out, only to realise upon looking down at the money in my hand that I was shortchanged, I ran back into the store but I didn't know how to approach it without sounding like I was accusing them, because I don't think it was intentional as we were both distracted at the time. I decided not to pursue it because there's no proof, as I wasn't given a receipt."
