Freshwater is a beachside village that offers a sense of community, making it one of Sydney's best-kept secrets. The family-friendly sandy beach, which is patrolled by lifeguards, faces south and is sheltered from the usual afternoon winds.
For those who enjoy walking, a scenic 30-minute stroll along the foreshore and Manly beachfront will take you to the Manly Ferry wharf. From there, you can reach the heart of the city in just 15 minutes via the Jet Cat ferry.
The village itself is only a 10-minute walk away and offers a safe, clean, and vibrant atmosphere. You'll find numerous cafes, shops, a supermarket, a butcher, restaurants, bars, and a convenient corner shop at the end of the street that stays open until 9pm.
Freshwater Beach holds worldwide fame as a Surfing National Heritage Park and is known as the birthplace of Australian surfing. In 1914, Duke Kahanamoku introduced surfboard riding here, cementing its place in surfing history.

"Hidden gem right next to Manly. If you're looking for a surf or just a quiet beach, definitely worth the walk over from Manly."
"The Perfect place to stay. The owners are easygoing and very welcoming but not intrusive. The unit is very clean and quite large. The sound of the waves was very healing. It's the little things like lots of pillows and lots of fluffy towels that I really appreciate. I highly recommend this pad on the beach to anyone trying to centre themselves or write a book or just kick back. The unit is decked out with a bookshelf of the most interesting books you can imagine. We will definitely be back next year."
