Base Wood Fired Pizza Castleknock

"FEBRUARY 2023: The pizza quality has greatly improved since I wrote the review below in April 2020, so I am increasing reviews from 2 stars to 4. APRIL 2020 - 2 stars I've been ordering Base pizzas for years from Lucan and Castleknock since this branch opened. The pizzas are excellent (5 stars) when they get it right but the quality control is very poor in the Castleknock branch so much so that now it is more of an exception to get the pizza delivered correctly. Here are the problems I’ve experienced: 1. Sometimes too much cheese and pizza is greasy (see attached pic as an example) 2. The toppings are frequently incorrect – either the topping is missing or wrong one added 3.Sometimes too much dough and the pizza is stodgy 4. Pizza delivered incorrectly so cheese and toppings slide-off and it looks like a dog’s dinner (see attached pic as an example) I don’t always complain because it takes effort to do so and sometimes the store is closed by the time the pizza arrives. When I do complain, they don’t always reply to emails, so you have to ring. To be fair, they do offer refunds or store credit when you get speaking to them, and they’re friendly and seem genuinely interested in customer satisfaction, but, despite their assurances, the quality control remains lacking and they keep repeating the same mistakes. It’s so bad now that I’ve decided to stop ordering. It is a real shame as the pizzas are superb when they get it right. I know from speaking to friends in the area that they’ve had similar experiences. Maybe I’ll try again in a few months in the hope that things have improved but for now I’m staying away and I don’t recommend. I hope someone from Base pizza reads this and acts on it in terms of implementing quality control into their process. A conversation with the chef is not going to work – you need to have a second person (not the chef) check that the pizza matches the order and the quality is to standard before letting it out of the store."

"Ordered pizza today. Delivery guy very pleasant. Pizza with delivery 20 euro but burnt on edges and never received my garlic dip I pay for ... the delivery guy apologize , I wouldn't expect him to drive again just for garlic dip. Would I order again... Definitely not. Pizza itself tested good ,just seeme extremely small for the size, didn't feel me up."

"My go to pizza delivery gone to the dogs. Love the pizza and used to arrive on time throughout Covid however all orders made over the last 3 months have been delivered 30 mins to an hour & a half later than the already extremely long expected delivery time that's indicated in the text you receive after ordering. Luckily the staff seem very pleasant but the 2 hour delivery time for a pizza that takes seconds to cook is just hilarious."

"Originally, I only left a rating, but I have been back to Base a few times since, and Lauren and the team deserve a few words of appreciation. Pizzas are consistently cooked to perfection with a large variety of set and variable toppings that will satisfy most tastes. On some lazy evenings, I have taken advantage of the delivery service and was pleased to take delivery of fresh, hot pizzas as ordered. So to Lauren and the team, I say "Keep doing what you do". It's terrific :-)"
