"After retiring from work my Doctor diagnosed me with Type 2 Diabetes and prescribed medication (MetFormin tablets). He advised me to exercise and to lose weight. I joined my local Charteris gym and the free weekly Over 50s Keep Fit session where I received a warm welcome and made new friends. Charteris is a community-based not for profit centre run by committed and hardworking Director Lloyd and colleagues who have developed a popular programme of activities for a diverse neighbourhood. After 6 months attending Charteris my Doctor tested me again and found that my health had improved and that I had lost weight. He told me that I no longer had Diabetes and stopped my medication. I will continue to use the Charteris Gym and to attend the weekly Over 50s sessions as it helps me to keep fit, lose weight, improve my health and hopefully live longer!"

"Charteris is a gem of a gym and sports centre ! Although it is smaller, it has all the facilities you need, runs a good range of classes including a brilliant over 50s circuit training class on a Friday evening and an excellent Pilates class on a Sunday morning and its great for badminton too! It is also much friendlier and more relaxed than most sports centres and has a real sense of community about it. No monthly charges- just pay as you go, so you don't pay for what you don't use. Fantastic!"
