Reviews
"Beautiful Alexander Greek Thomson house to visit. I hadn't been since the refurbishment and it is stunning. The details on the ceilings, walls and woodwork are amazing. We did the guided tour and our guide was very well informed and able to answer our questions. Well worth a visit ⭐"
"This is an architectural and historical gem. Acquired by the National Trust it has been restored to its original state, a fantastical mid Victorian seat for a self made man and his family. Designed by Alexander Thompson in what he imagined to be a Greek style it is more reminiscent of the faux Egyptian style of the Art Deco period. There is a small tea room, and you can visit the Snuff Mill bridge about half a mile away along the White Cart river. There is a guided tour - very well done. Add this to a tour including the Macintosh house and the typical tenement (also NT) and you get a real feel for Victorian Glasgow."
"Great restoration work going on here. NT only had 1% of the original decor to work from but the progress to today's condition is phenomenal. The guided tour was around 50mins and very interesting as our guide clearly knew her stuff. We didn't use the Tearoom but inside and outside seating was available in a pleasant setting."
"Recently visited this fascinating and historical location, great to see it has now had many of Greek Thompson’s original features restored, easy to navigate the rooms and there’s loads of information cards in each room also helpful and informative staff on hand if you should require.Be sure to visit the tea room, good selection of scones and cakes as well as a variety of teas and coffee,a bit cramped when busy but worth it for a wee break, lovely gardens beautifully kept and ample free parking.Run by The National Trust so there is an entrance fee if not a member but well worth it to see this piece of local history being cared for and back in the public domain."
"Great visit to holmwood house - fascinating buildong with a great history. Card machine was temperamental so advise taking cash for entry or coffee shop! Volunteers were informative and friendly."
