About the Business
Rio Cinema is a bustling establishment located in the heart of Hackney, London. Housed in a beautiful Art Deco building, this movie theater has been entertaining the local community for over a century. With its rich history and distinctive architecture, Rio Cinema is not just a place to catch the latest films but a destination within itself.
Inside, you will find a cozy lobby that exudes an old-world charm. The popcorn machine churns caramelized kernels, filling the air with a luscious aroma. The walls are adorned with vintage posters and photographs that pay homage to the cinematic greats. An atmosphere of excitement and anticipation permeates the space as movie-goers eagerly wait for the lights to dim and the screen to come to life.
The theater itself is an enchanting space that boasts state-of-the-art technology. Rio Cinema has a large screen that offers a crystal-clear picture and sound, transporting viewers into the world of their favorite films. The seating is comfortable, with each seat offering a clear view of the screen. The space is not too large, creating a cozy setting that allows for an intimate viewing experience.
Rio Cinema showcases a variety of films, from the latest blockbusters to independent gems that are hard to find elsewhere. The theater often hosts special screenings, themed nights, and events that add to the excitement of watching a film. What sets Rio Cinema apart from other theaters in London is its commitment to showcasing diverse and thought-provoking films that cater to a wide range of tastes.
In addition to its cinematic offerings, Rio Cinema is also a point of interest for those who appreciate history and architecture. The building was first opened in 1915 as a beautiful music hall and was later converted into a cinema in the 1970s. The Art Deco touches that were added during the conversion have been meticulously preserved, making Rio Cinema a visual delight for architecture buffs.
Whether you are a film buff, history enthusiast, or simply looking for a memorable night out, Rio Cinema is the perfect destination. With its beautiful architecture, comfortable seating, and diverse range of films, it is an establishment that has something to offer for everyone.
Reviews
"Love this art deco cinema with so much history behind it. Good movie selection, great space and I like the fact it is independent. Affordable prices too, especially Mondays and Tuesdays. In the heart of buzzy Dalston."
"Art Deco cinema from 1909 with cosy seating and a comfortable view of a traditional proscenium screen."
"Interesting art deco building with a historical touch. Some sits definitely needs a replacement and it was pretty chilled during the movie."
"Loved the experience and historical setting of the Rio - need to get around to supporting independent cinemas more! What a great venue and unique setting, much different from the big commercial Vues or Odeons. Comfy seats, nice ticket on concession, and a really entertaining ensemble film (Glass Onion!) Will for sure be back for another viewing sometime, really enjoyed my time."
"A wonderful eclectic cinema with a beautifully redesigned basement bar modelled and inspired by the Shining and other classic films, made locally by wooden craftsmen, which added to the local authenticity of the place. Seats are huge leather individual seats and small intimate screens. Super lovely staff and locally sourced drinks including a delicious passion fruit soda and vegetarian snacks. Great place for date night and to find films not on general release."
