"The way I found out I had bilateral bc was appalling. I overheard the doctor tell a member of the team dealing with me 'with bilateral breast cancer'. When I told her I'd heard what she said the response was 'It's a bit premature to be having this discussion. Let's wait for the results of the biopsies'. I was given an appointment to return for the results 2 weeks later. I didn't wait that long. I went to see my GP a week later and he confirmed for me. I understand that the doctor didn't mean me to hear what she said but the fact is I did and was left shocked and worried until I saw the consultant several weeks later. The centre staff were all very friendly and kind, especially the nurse who came and found me before my husband and I left that day and said she was sorry, she knew it was a lot to take on and she could see I was very strong and I would deal with it. I hope the doctor learned from my experience and will be more careful in future meaning no one else will find out the way I did."
