"Quite friendly but locked in. Such a pity for a true old fashioned public house."

"Stayed here whilst working in London for a few weeks. Staff looked after me very well with a lovely breakfast in the morning and dinner in the bar every evening. Clean, no-frills room."

"A proper pub! Back in the 'seventies "The German's" was my local (in the 'fifties and 'sixties my grandad even had his own chair at the bar - nobody else ever sat in it as he spent every hour of opening time in it!). Visited a few weeks ago and the only thing that had really changed was the staff - but the new ones are just as friendly! It acquired its sobriquet "The German's" after its first landlord, Louis Spielman, who ran it from 1891 to 1895."
