"It pains me to write this review as we have booked several holidays with Althams and had no issues. However I always believe that a business is judged on not how they deal with things that go smoothly but more as to how things are dealt with when a problem arises. We booked an holiday back in August for a New Year break (leaving 29th Dec)The holiday was with Jet 2 and as we like to support local businesses we asked if Althams could do the same holiday, this they were happy to do and the holiday was booked and we were looking forward to some winter sun for the last 5 mths. Last Saturday( the 23rd) we recieved a call from Sharon the manager to say that the hotel we had booked 5 mths ago had overbooked and we had to move somewhere else. The hotel we had booked was a small boutique adults only hotel near the old town of the resort we wanted to stay in. The alternative offered was a large family resort type hotel which we would never dream of booking and miles from anywhere and in a completely different resort. This was not acceptable and bear in mind this was about 2 hrs before Althams closed for 3 days for the Christmas break. 2 others were offered in different resorts and whlist looking ok we did not feel we were being offered an equivelant holiday to the one we had booked and paid for. Dispite the amount we paid all that Jet 2 offered in compensation for the disruption so close to our departure date was a derogatory £80, while Althams themselves just said it was nothing to do with them and our contract was with Jet 2 so would offer anything to ease the issue. 2 days ago Kim the assistant manager called and said the hotel and Jet 2 said that the original hotel was only overbooked for the first 2 days of our stay and we could move there for the last 5 days which would have meant the first 2 days in limbo, unable to settle and unpack and then a day spent(NYE) transfering to another resort and unpacking, not to mention trying to find somehwere to eat that night (NYE) Kim said we should just go and make the most of it( pretty unprofessional thing to say IMO) Bottom line is we have had to cancel the holiday(we did get a refund) the day before we were due to go after having our christmas and holiday spoilt."
